Children's Halloween Costume on the cheap

A while back, my two daughters were young and were going to Sleeping Beauty Blue and Sleeping Beauty Pink. I was barely making bills, so I didn't have a lot of funds for fabrics.
So, I asked relatives for old, worn sheets. They have lots of fabric and are soft.

Then I bought a pink and a blue box of Rit dye. One sheet died pink, and one died blue. On more miniature sheets, we (my cousin and I) left the blue and the pink in longer. So now I had light, dark, and pink fabrics. It worked out well. I used one pattern in the large size and then cut it down for the smaller size to make the cost of one pattern work out.

That was one of the best Halloweens we had.

My wife made a harry potter costume for our son. She found the black robe for 10 dollars from a local shop along with the glasses and the magic stick. She then took my burgundy tie and with textile color marker in orange color she did the stripes. Our son already had black pants and white shirt so bingo, he was the cutest harry potter on a budget

It was very good and probably looked a lot more authentic than a cheap fabric "costume" purchased online or at Walmart/Target.

Well, a diy costume always looks more authentic than online purchases or at Walmart and target. You make it with passion and excitement and that's what matters.

I enjoy making costumes for my 8 yr old too. there's a sense of fulfillment and also those surprised eyes when they finally try them on. thrift shops are my go to places too
