I'm new here but have been a huge Barbossa fan for years, ever since the first Pirates of the Caribbean came out. It's honestly been a wild ride!!
As a kid, my first attempt at a Barbossa costume was on a shoestring budget. I'm talking Crayola air-dry clay for Jack the Monkey and an old pair of work boots I tried to pass off as pirate boots. Now, as an adult with adult money, I've been able to upgrade almost everything. I finally splurged on some amazing CABoots and a resin replica of his flintlock, which I'm debating upgrading with a mod kit down the line. I also have a close-to-screen-accurate lion ring and a couple of those hard-to-find hat and belt buckles from an old eBay seller.
I've spent the last two weeks hand-embroidering french knots on the coat, and I got new fabric on the way for Barbossa's britches. I also recently found a great thrift store wig and I'm using a lace beard since my genetics aren't cooperating on that front. The one thing I'm really struggling with is finding a good resource for the waistcoat buttons. I'm hoping to learn metal casting to make my own eventually, but even one replica button to use as a model would be a huge help. I also recently found out that the dark feathers on his hat are actually a deep blue, not black, so I'm currently on the hunt for some new feathers.
Beyond my own project, I'm in the process of building a Jack Sparrow costume for good buddy. Our goal is to make these characters as screen-accurate as possible!! So if anyone out there has any leads on those waistcoat buttons or blue feathers, I'd be eternally grateful for the help!!
